Most businesses now recognize that the internet is just not going away, it has become a very important part of business. Even those who were having nothing to do with the internet are now realizing that they need to be on line and have a website. The smarter entrepreneurs dominate areas of the internet with effective websites, knowing that the amount of business that can be conducted from a website which runs "automatically" including payment and fulfillment systems far exceeds that of a bricks and mortar type business.
A high proportion of Website Hosting was for many years (and still is to some degree) dominated by the USA. Offshore Internet Businesses that do not pay Tax (or very little) and do a great deal of business in a high tax country attract a lot of interest from the tax authorities. Some countries have changed legislation or interpret existing legislation so that if an offshore company that runs a website (hosted) in their country then they can tax them. For many offshore companies "offshore hosting" was the answer.
